Leesburg native earns PGA Tour card
Billy Hurley III is headed back to the PGA Tour next season. The Leesburg native earned his tour card following a clutch performance at the Web.com Tour Championship, Sept. 26-29 in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
Hurley, 31, shot 4-under par on the first day of competition and closed with a 2-under par round. In between, Hurley posted a pair of even par rounds. His 6-under par total of 274 earned him a tie for eighth place.
Overall, 50 Web.com Tour golfers gained eligibility for the PGA Tour. Hurley, a U.S. Naval Academy graduate who now resides in Annapolis, garnered a spot based on his strong play during the Web.com Tour Finals – a collection of four tournaments to close out the season.
Hurley last played on the PGA Tour in 2012. His best result surfaced at the 2012 AT&T National, tying for fourth place in the event won by Tiger Woods at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md.
The Loudoun County High School alum survived the cut in 15 of 24 Web.com Tour events in 2013. Hurley posted three top 10 finishes, highlighted by a runner-up effort at the United Leasing Championship.
