Catching Up with Billy Hurley III PGA TOUR’s Lone Veteran

USN had a chance to ask PGA TOUR™ professional golfer Billy Hurley III about his military background (USNA ’04) as well as his golf career, including how he feels about being the only military Veteran on the PGA TOUR™.

He won his only PGA TOUR™ tournament at the 2016 Quicken Loans National and is back June 29-July 2 to defend his title (for more info, go to www.qlnational.com).

Billy Hurley III is a bit of an anomaly on the PGA TOUR. Although, as a kid, he dreamed of having a pro golf career, he took the “scenic route” to get there. He earned his bachelor’s degree at the United States Naval Academy, then served five years as a naval officer—including deployment in the Persian Gulf—before earning his place on the TOUR.
